The Honda Accord is a full sized vehicle manufactured by Honda since 1976, the first Honda Accord was a compact hatchback and became the first Honda assembled in the US in 1982. The Honda Accord is currently Honda’s full sized sedan slightly larger than the Honda Civic mid-sized sedan.

Honda Accord 1976-1981
1981 honda accordThe first generation Accord made its debut as a 3-door hatchback, a compact family friendly vehicle with a 1.6L engine and 68HP, in 1979 Honda launched a 4-door sedan version of the Accord available with a larger 1.8L engine with 72HP and an optional 3-speed automatic transmission . The Honda Accord sedan competed directly at the time with the Toyota Corona, Nissan Stanza and Mazda Capella. 

Honda Accord 1982-1985
1985 honda accordThe second generation Honda Accord was unveiled in 1981 and arrived in Canada as a 1982 Accord model, the new Accord was assembled and manufactured in Honda’s new plant in Ohio, starting in 1982 the Honda Accord became the top selling Japanese sedan in the US and Canada for 15 years. With a newly redesigned exterior a slick more aerodynamic design and fully renovated interior the Accord grew in size and weight, including more safety features and an overall more comfortable interior. It carried over an upgraded 1.8L 75HP CVCC engine improving fuel economy by 15%.

The 1983 Accord includes an improved 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission, a new 190 km/h speedometer is used with the improved engine. A fully loaded Honda Accord SE trim included leather interior with power windows and locks. The 1984 Accord received a mid generation face-lift with more rounded corners and curvier headlights, adding more luxury features for the fully loaded trim including air-conditioning, cruise control, power-steering and power brakes.

Honda Accord 1986-1989
1989 accord canadaThe third generation Accord began production at Honda new plant in Alliston, Ontario and was the first Honda manufactured in Canada, it continued to use the same FF layout platform, the new sporty layout looked like a 4-door Honda Prelude. The new Accord upgraded to a double wishbone suspension system using McPherson struts improving handling and overall stability, the Accord also received upgraded disk brakes and optional anti-lock ABS brakes for the 4-wheel disk brake models. In 1988 a 2-door coupe was added to the Accords lineup which included a 4-door sedan and the Accord 3-door hatchback. In Canada the Accord was available with a larger 2.0L SOHC engine and an optional 2.2L with 120HP.

Honda Accord 1990-1993
1993 honda accordThe fourth generation Accord grew significantly in size while it still belonged to the compact segment it competed directly with the Ford Taurus. In 1990 the 3-door hatchback was replaced with a 5-door station wagon, while the 2-door coupe was outfitted as the performance based sport model. With this design Honda departed with the conventional economy sedan and was outfitted like the luxury based Acura Legend, the newly designed Accord receive an upgraded 2.2L 16-valve fuel injected engine which it shared with the Honda Prelude. In 1991 Honda
re-launched the Accord Special Edition SE trim, including premium Bose sound system, leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel, plus a supercharged 140HP 2.2L engine.

The last year of the fourth generation Accord celebrated the 10th year anniversary of Honda's manufacturing plant in Ohio, a 1993 10th Anniversary Edition Accord was launched based on the Accord LX trim, adding a few key features including 16 inch rims, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS and spoiler. That same year the Accord was awarded the Car of the Year in Japan.

Honda Accord 1994-1997
1997 honda accord canadaThe fifth generation Honda Accord was named Import Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine, although it was technically now manufactured in the US and at Mexico's new assembly plant. The 1994 Honda Accord was officially slotted in the mid-sized sedan segment using a larger restructured chassis, due to safety requirements in the US and Canada the 1994 Accord included standard dual airbags, with an upgraded automatic transmission now using Honda's grade-logic shift technology.

The 1995 Accord debuted an optional V6 2.7L engine shared with the Acura Legend, coupled with dual exhaust, because of the significant larger size of the V6 engine, all V6 models have larger fenders and wider hood. The 1996 Accord was redesigned with new front and back fenders and tail lights. The 1996 Accord also featured a fully loaded 25th Anniversary Edition slotted between the EX and EX-L trim. The 1997 Accord station wagon model was the last station wagon available in Canada until the 2009 Accord Crosstour.

Honda Accord 1998-2002
2002 honda accord canadaThe sixth generation Accord was divided into three market designs for North America, Japan and Asia, and the European market. In Canada, the US and Mexico the Accord grew more in size, competing in size with the luxury full-sized Acura Legend. The Accord coupe began to take a shape of its own and while it shared the same platform with the Accord sedan it followed the Acura CL design with a unique front grill, it was no longer the Accord 2-door coupe but rather branded as the Accord Coupe. The Honda Accord in Canada was available with a 2.3L engine with 125HP, while the Accord EX and EX-L trim model featured a 2.3L VTEC engine with 150HP. While the V6 Accord received an upgraded V6 3.0L SOHC VTEC engine with 200HP shared with the Acura CL. With the popularity of the 2001 Accord, Honda choose to extend the sixth generation model one last year and changing each generation design to four years following the 2002 Accord.

Honda Accord 2003-2007
2007 honda accordThe seventh generation Honda Accord is manufactured in Ohio and shares the same assembly plant with the Honda Civic and Honda Element, while in Japan it was marketed as the Honda Inspire. The 2003 Accord grew in size and weight aiming at the luxury full sized segment and a considerable price difference between the Honda Civic and Accord. A revised V6 Accord increased the 3.0L engine to 244HP coupled with an upgraded 5-speed automatic transmission. The 2003 Honda Accord was also the first Honda car available with an optional built-in GPS navigation system & XM satellite radio shared with the Honda Odyssey.

The 2005 Honda Accord in Canada also received more safety features including six airbags, new front chrome grill shared with the Civic and was the top selling mid-sized vehicle in Canada. The 2006 Accord received some minor interior changes, adding a more refined and comfortable exterior, it also included 17 inch rims for the V6 Accord and optional Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and traction control, improving handling and highway stability, it also featured an optional performance geared 6-speed manual transmission shared with the Accord Coupe. The 2006 Honda Accord also received an upgraded 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with 166HP, in South America the 2.4L engine was replaced with a more fuel efficient 2.0L VTEC engine. With the popularity of the Accord in Canada, Honda released the Accord hybrid in 2005-2007 with variable cylinder management, which allows for better fuel economy by shutting off cylinders when they are not in use, alternating between running on 3 or 4 cylinders before revving up to all 6 cylinders when it's needed, a technology also used with the Honda Pilot and Honda Odyssey.

Honda Accord 2008-2014
2012 honda accord canadaThe 2008 Accord made the final leap to the full sized segment, dropping the Accord hybrid which is better designed for a mid-sized sedan like the Honda Civic Hybrid. The Honda Accord Coupe concept received great reviews when it made its official debut at the 2007 North American AutoShow and it arrived to Canadian dealers in late 2007. In Canada the base model 2011 Accord EX trim is equipped with standard anti-lock ABS brakes, electronic brake force distribution with brake assist and electronic stability control (ESC) which detects loss of steering and can automatically adjust itself when it detects skidding. The EX model also includes cruise control, along with front and back disc brakes, equipped with a 2.4L 16-valve DOHC engine with 177HP; while the EX trim is equipped with a more powerful 2.4L engine with 190HP which includes a sunroof, 17 inch aluminum alloy rims and dual-zone climate control; the Honda Accord EX-L adds heated seats with an all leather interior, while the EX-Navi includes Honda's satellite linked navigation system with recognition and rearview backup camera; the V6 2011 Accord is equipped with a V6 3.5L 24-valve engine with 271HP with optional leather interior and GPS navigation system.

Honda Crosstour 2010-2014
2012 honda crosstour canadaThe Honda Crosstour is only available in Canada and the US market, and arrived in Canada in late 2009 as the 2010 Accord Crosstour; the Crosstour is a mid-size crossover wagon and is inspired by the BMW X6 luxury crossover designed as a station wagon which Honda had discontinued since 1997, the 2011 Crosstour is based on the Honda Accord platform but slotted between the Honda CRV and Honda Pilot in price and size, the competes directly with the Toyota Venza which is also based on the Camry sedan platform with crossover. The Accord Crosstour shares the overall design and profile with the Acura ZDX crossover.

The 2013 Crosstour is equipped with a V6 3.5L 24-valve i-VTEC engine with 271HP and multi-point programmed fuel injection system (PGM-FI) better managing fuel injection thus increasin fuel economy. The Accord Crosstour is available with a front-wheel drive in the Crosstour EX-L trim, while the Crosstour EX-L 4WD trim is coupled with Honda's real-time 4-wheel drive, and features 18 inch allow rims; the fully loaded 2014 Honda Accord Crosstour EX-L 4WD Navi, the trim explains it all, it ads Honda's satellite linked GPS navigation system with bilingual voice recognition and rearview camera.
